ROH Death Before Dishonor Results

One-On-One Match
El Generico vs. Jimmy Jacobs
Generico and Jacobs follow the Code of Honor and shake hands before the match begins. The bell rings, and Generico muscles Jacobs to the corner. The referee calls for the break, and both men return to the middle of the ring. Jacobs muscles Generico to the opposite corner, and once again the referee calls for the clean break. We get an “Little Jimmy” chant from the crowd. Nice. Jacobs locks in an arm wringer, but Generico flips out to break the hold. Jacobs drops Generico with a deep arm drag. Jacobs allows Generico to get back to his feet, and Generico drops Jacobs with a running shoulder block. Jacobs kips up into a spinning head scissors takedown that sends Generico to the corner. Generico catches Jacobs with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for a two count. Generico nails Jacobs with an volley of elbow shots and follows up with chops in the corner. Generico hits a scoop slam and follows up with a standing moonsault for a two count. Generico goes back to work with the chops, but Jacobs stand tall and takes it. Jacobs hits two lariats and tosses Generico to the outside. Jacobs hits a suicide dive to the outside and levels Generico. Jacobs rolls Generico back into the ring and connects with a boot to the face. Jacobs hits a tornado suplex out of the corner and gets a two count. Generico goes for a Big Boot, but Jacobs catches the boot. Generico regains control with a Michinoku Driver for a two count. Generico sets up for a Yakuza Kick, but Jacobs catches him with the End Time. Jacobs connects with an Ace Crusher variation for a two count. Generico finally lands the Yakuza kick and sets up Jacobs for the top rope brainbuster, but Jacobs fights off. Generico goes for the top rope brainbuster again, but Jacobs counters into a top rope tornado DDT. Both men are down in the ring, and the a thunderous roar from the crowd signals the emergence of Kevin Steen. He grabs a mic and says that he is NEVER going away. He starts an ROH chant and then asks Jacobs to tell Corino that he is a “fucking pussy.” Somebody cuts Steen’s mic, and the locker room comes out to ringside to diffuse the situation. Jacobs attacks Steen, but Steen powerbombs him right onto the ring apron. Generico flies and wipes out everyone… except Steen, who rolls into the ring and stand triumphant. Cary Silkin climbs into the ring and offers to shake Steen’s hand. Steen shakes his hand but goes for the package piledriver. Jim Cornette enters the ring, and we’ve got a pull-apart brawl between Steen and Cornette. “Let them fight!” chant from the crowd. They might be talking about Steen / Generico, or they might be talking about Steen / Cornette. The roster separates Steen and Generico, and we get a “Mr. Wrestling” chant from the crowd. Generico breaks free, but Jacobs keeps him from following Steen into the crowd. Generico is PISSED. Cornette is PISSED. Jimmy Jacobs isn’t too pleased. Jacobs and Cornette get into a heated argument at ringside
Match Result: No contest.
Match Length: 12:00ish before the Steenference, 16:00ish total

Jimmy Jacobs Steps Up To The Plate

It has been over a week since ROH officials set the match for “Death Before Dishonor IX” on September 17th: Steve Corino vs. El Generico (http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/the-biggest-test-of-steve-corinos-sobriety/). To say Corino’s response to this match announcement was intense would be an understatement. From his statements in the 8/31 Video Wire (http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/roh-video-wire-august-31st/) to the letter sent to ROH officials (http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/a-letter-from-steve-corino/), it has been a tumultuous week-plus for the sobriety of Steve Corino.

Jimmy Jacobs, to his credit as a sponsor, realized that Corino was not ready for this sort of confrontation and likely would fall whole-heartedly off the wagon when faced with the man whose life he tried to ruin throughout 2010. Jacobs offered himself up as a replacement in the match, offered to take the fight on Steve’s behalf, and encouraged Corino to take on a tour of Pro Wrestling Zero-1 in Japan the weekend of “DBD IX”.

ROH officials have debated back-and-forth on this issue since the moment Jacobs contacted management and offered to take on Steve’s burden. For officials this was the true test of Corino’s sincerity and sobriety, their way of putting Corino on the hot seat, and seeing how he would react. To Steve’s credit, he came to ROH officials honestly and openly, and admitted he was not ready for El Generico. In many ways, that sort of self awareness and soul-baring honesty showed officials just as much about Steve as if he had taken on the match.

With that being said, ROH officials ruled last night to allow Jimmy Jacobs to replace Steve Corino at “Death Before Dishonor IX” in the scheduled match against El Generico and gave their blessing for Steve to head to Japan for Zero-1.

“Thank you Ring of Honor.” said Jimmy Jacobs, “Thank you for accepting our request and thank you for realizing that Steve wasn’t quite ready for this challenge to his recovery. It takes a brave man to admit when he’s in trouble, but it takes an equally brave person to trust the word of someone who has gone where Steve and I have. ROH, I will not let you down in New York City and Steve, you will be in my thoughts when I get in the ring with Generico. Like I told Steve, he’ll be ready for a night like this sooner than he thinks; one morning he will wake up and just know that he’s ready.”
